This family retreat is completely self sufficient providing a comfortable getaway from city living on an island off the Sunshine Coast of BC.

The home collects water from the long shed roof, stores it and purifies it. The roof also collects solar energy, stores it and uses it to power the entire compound.

Two main features are the central thermal mass fireplace that heats the living space and the interior courtyard garden for growing herbs and vegetables.

The home includes a garage and shop, a large central family gathering and dining space, country kitchen, master suite with private deck, guest suite, sleeping rooms for an additional eight guests, childrens playroom, garden, outdoor shower, and completely separate guest house.

This amazing home sits on top of a high bluff over looking the ocean and is built on a stepping deck that lifts it further off the ground to take advantage of the spectacular ocean views.

The building was designed to be prefabricated, with colour coded sections, delivered by helicopter and then erected on site.
